The fourth wave of the pandemic is at hand with an increase in the number of cases and hospitalizations from the virus, the new variant first seen in Africa has been detected in 23 countries around the world already; this pandemic has seen rising numbers due to the fact that people stay away from their vaccination as recommended. People have refused to implement the roll out of vaccination as recommended by the WHO which is the only tool to keep all safe from the virus that is why it is changing and causing havoc, governments must make it compulsory for all citizens, it must be mandatory to achieve the desired outcome.

Omicron is the new variant of the virus that causes COVID-19, the world health organization declared it a “variant of concern on 26 November 2021, it was first reported in South Africa on 24 November 2021 and is quickly becoming the dominant variant there. The world health organization declared omicron to be a COVID-19 variant of concern based on preliminary evidence that it spreads quickly, a variant of concern is one that may change how the pandemic behaves, so WHO pays close attention to it.

So far about 500 cases have been numbered with 100 plus cases in South Africa alone, a few in Botswana. Just as many countries around the world were beginning to loosen their border restrictions, reports of this newly detected corona virus variant in South Africa sent many of those doors slamming shut again. The COVID-19 omicron variant has disrupted air travel, leaving thousands of travelers stranded, the travel band has been imposed due to this discovery, this is hampering the smooth functioning of the economics of the nation, touristic sites and activities in the domain have lost the boom and steam of this festive season.
